OOutdoor Effects can build a multi-levelled timber decks and include seating or steps if required. The versatility of timber allows your deck to be tailored to your lifestyle and your home. Consider how much space you will need – it will need to be a minimum of 3 metres wide to fit most sets of outdoor table and chairs.
If there is a possibility that a person could fall one metre or more from your deck, or if the deck area is greater than ten square metres, a building consent will be needed.
Pinex timber decking
WWe use plantation grown New Zealand pine that is specially treated for outdoor use. Decking, bearers and joists not in contact with the ground are H3 treated, with posts and timber in contact with the ground being treated to a minimum of H4.
Finishing touches for your new deck
YYou may prefer to stain your new timber deck or allow it to weather for a natural look. Timber is a natural product which shrinks as it dries, so some shallow cracking will develop in timber exposed to the elements. Painting or staining reduces weathering and maintains the natural good looks of pine, and there are products available to reduce mildew growth and surface checking.
TTo retain the original great looks of timber decks and prevent the growth of slippery mildew, we recommend periodic cleaning with one of the many chemical cleaners available. High-pressure waterblasting is not recommended as it “furs” the timber attracting more dirt and mildew.
